How Melbourne 26-year-old paid for a $38m mansion

A mystery homebuyer who snapped up a $38million mansion has been revealed as the 26-year-old boss of the world’s biggest crypto-currency online casino.

Edward ‘Ed’ Craven made the jaw dropping purchase for the property in Toorak, , at the start of March.

His identity remained a mystery and stirred plenty of speculation before it was finally revealed on Friday.

Mr Craven co-founded crypto gambling platform Stake.com in 2017 and the company has quickly grown to an estimated worth of more than $1billion. 

The sale price is more than three times the amount paid by the previous owner for the home in 2018 and includes a luxurious house that is located in one of the most affluent suburbs in the city.

The luxury mansion spans 2,000sq metres and boasts a three car garage, four bedrooms and as many bathrooms.

The interior Singapore Pools is fashioned in an art decor style that includes a curved staircase and plenty of sculptures on display.

An in-ground pool adds to the resort-style backyard with a landscaped garden and outdoor entertainment area.

A contemporary chandelier hangs from a double-height ceiling and a study room has been built with dark stained oak joinery. 

Some 50 ball lights hang from the ceiling in the dining room. 

The $38million price tag is more than triple the $12.2million sale price in 2018.

Deague Group chief executive of property William Deague purchased the property before knocking down it down and building a completely new home.

‘We are very pleased with the result and looking forward to the next project,’ Mr Deague said following the recent sale.

The suburb is home to bosses of some of the biggest companies in the world.  

Chemist Warehouse boss Sam Gance paid $43million for a house on Lansell Road in 2021.

Techn entrepreneur and Kogan.com founder Ruslan Kogan is also a local after paying $38.8million to live in the area.  

The most expensive property bought in the state is located in Malvern.

The property is known as Stonington Mansion and cost the new homeowner $52.5million in 2018.
